The day was a bleak one. Rick was feeling extremely down because of an argument that escalated with his girlfriend. He got so angry at her that he smacked across the face. When he came to his senses, he had a handprint across the side of his own face and she had stormed out. She had an old cell phone, so it did not have caller ID on it; he called to apologize and say that the relationship died as soon as he struck her. She agreed and she drove back; she had only driven around the block to seethe and calm herself down.
