To have a purpose, something that makes you feel like you're here to help your fellow man, is why I joined a world humanitarian organization. I wanted to go to the war torn parts of Eastern Europe to help give aid anyway I could. Instead I ended up in the beautiful, coastal country of Belize. That is where I met Emily.There were a total of 11 of us there. Six of us lived in 'East Canvas Campus', as we called it, and 5 lived in 'West Canvas Campus', about a mile and a half away. The army-green tents we lived in were surprisingly comfortable and cool in the heat and humidity. They were tall enough to stand in and could fit about three large cots. The biggest adjustment we had to make living there was the shower. Because we were responsible for filling our water tank, which was hard work and time consuming, there was a daily rotation we had to abide by. The first week I was there I was able to take a total of three showers. The second week I only took two. It is a hard way of life in such a hot and humid place
I had only been there about two weeks and only really knew Jim, Lucas, Nick, Maria and Sharon. We all worked in the Youth Education Program teaching people how to speak English, how to read and write and some basic math. The others on the West Campus worked in the Environmental Education Program teaching people how to utilize and care for their surroundings.
