Two Saturday afternoons for Beth

Beth was happy and sad. She had been working at the bookstore every summer since her freshman year. With graduation approaching she would have to say goodbye and enter the real world. She had been very lucky with this job. Amy, Beth's boss and co-owner of the bookstore, had helped Beth with many of her business major courses. Beth would miss Amy. She had grown to trust Amy with many details of her life. Beth had dated a few guys throughout college. Amy had been there to pick the pieces when Beth's heart was broken. While neither one knew what was about to happen there friendship was about to grow to new depths.

Two weeks remained until Beth would no longer come to work as usual on Saturday. She had arrived early to help unload the new shipment of books. The truck had delivered early and several stacks of plastic wrapped books were stacked at the back door. Rain clouds were threatening but no sprinkles were falling. Beth started hauling the stacks into the huge back room. There was at least an hour or two of work involved. Slowly the number of stacks shrank but the rain clouds were getting more serious.

Just as the last two stacks were waiting the rain started. It poured and Beth was soaked as she wheeled the last stacks into the back room. Amy arrived just as the work was finished. Beth had stepped into the bathroom to towel herself. She left the door slightly open let the warm ...
