All weekend I fretted, wondering what, if anything was happening at home but I refrained from calling Kathy. When I returned with the kids on Sunday afternoon Kathy greeted us lovingly. But still I wondered.

On Monday morning, I had a meeting at the bank with all his team leaders. There was no sign of Gerry. I was finding it difficult to concentrate and the most aggressive team leader, Yousef, seemed even more uppity than usual. His family had originated somewhere in the Middle East - apparently they had to flee from persecution. While Yousef is a big supporter of American action, he's always going on about the deficiencies of our culture with particular emphasis on saying that Western men didn't know how to handle women. He had the reputation of a ladies man and I knew that he was screwing our married secretary Sherry. In fact, she'd recently had a baby and only the unsuspecting husband didn't know that their darker skinned baby was Yousef's. He was also rumored to be having an affair with Linda in accounting, also married. Some people talked about Yousef's harem. I had talked to Kathy about him and, while she thought the behavior disgraceful, she did say that he was handsome and had a mysterious air about him that some women might go for.

After lunch, I returned to my desk to find a package on it. Opening it, I froze: there was videotape inside and a note from Gerry, which just said "Enjoy". For the rest of the day, my mind was in turmoil. Somehow, on returning home, I managed to behave normally until the kids were in ...
