Enough of rural beauty, thought Paul. This sunny Sunday morning in August he decided to do some city biking, choosing busy streets full of people over pretty country lanes.

He had already been biking for an hour, pedaling his way up and down sharp hills, and around college buildings and stores, when he turned up Junefield Road, full of apartment houses, auto dealerships, and coffee shops. The weather was warm, his muscles were nice and loose, and he was pleased with his decision.

As he biked along, Paul noticed a slim, pretty Asian girl unloading boxes from a small car parked along the road. He was quickly past her, but decided to see if she needed help, and wheeled around sharply. "Hi. Would you like some help with those boxes?" he asked, smiling shyly. The young woman, dressed in jeans and a tank top, looked him up and down, and said, "Thanks. I'm just moving in to a new apartment."

Paul climbed off his bike, leaned it against a nearby tree, and reached for the nearest box. It was heavy, but he hoisted it onto his shoulder, and followed her--toting a smaller container--along the street. "I'm Paul, by the way," he added, and waited for her to respond. "Hi, Paul, I'm Suzanne. To save you some questions, I'm a graduate student in English, moving here from Boston. And I appreciate the help." Suzanne turned and smiled to emphasize her point.
