The non-stop 747 flight from New Orleans to San Francisco lifted off of the runway precisely at 9:07 in the typical muggy New Orleans morning. Kyle felt the back of his torso pressing against the aisle seat on the last row of the plane as the jet rumbled down the runway and gradually angled up towards the clear blue sky. Seconds later, he heard the retraction of the landing wheels and felt the slight shaking of the plane as it climbed through a patch of cotton-like clouds.
