Kristy looked down at the device in her hand. It resembled a small cellphone, but it was actually the remote for the time machine she had helped develop. As she watched the counter count down towards zero, she reviewed her plan, memories of Julie coming back to her.

Three years ago, she was one of a group of scientists working on a project to create a working time machine. The project had all but consumed her when she met a new lab assistant, Julie. Julie was a short woman, with shoulder length brown hair, brown eyes, and small, but proportional, curves.

Kristy and Julie worked closely together for several weeks before Julie invited her colleague to her twenty-first birthday party. Kristy thought she was too old to party with a group of college students, but Julie insisted she wouldn't take no for an answer.

That Friday Kristy drove to the restaurant and walked inside. The hostess sat her at a table near the back, but the only person there was Julie.

"Where is everyone else?"

"Everyone that I invited is here now." ...
