The Deal

I work as a civil engineer. You know, one of those unglamorous engineers that builds roads, not one of those glamorous, high paid ones that design computers and high tech gizmos. Ah, but roads keep the world rolling.

The trouble with engineering is that it's not a great profession in which to meet women. If you're a civil engineer and you can't hook up with someone while you're still in university, your opportunities diminish quickly. So I am 30 and unattached, but keeping my eye out for Ms. Right. Or at least I was.

Unfortunately, there still aren't many women engineers, but there are a couple with the firm I work for. Debbie is 32, divorced, and like me is a civil engineer who has been with the firm for about 4 years. Ann is 27, single, and an environmental engineer who joined us a year ago, after completing her graduate work. I have worked with both of them many times and enjoyed it very much. Both are very professional, and very good at what they do. But they take a different approach to their work, paying a little bit more attention to the big picture, and being a little less impatient to finish the day so they can go for a beer.

Both Debbie and Ann are quite attractive. They're not models, just ordinary women, but I'd be proud to be seen walking down the street ...
