The night after Claire's first modelling session, Suzanne picked me up from college at about seven o'clock, as we'd agreed. She took me to a little bistro in the nearby town, where she'd booked us a table in the far corner away from the window. A smartly dressed waiter showed us to our seats and took our drinks order. I asked for a glass of wine and Suzanne chose a soft drink, as she would be driving. He left us to ponder the menu. When he returned with our drinks we had decided what we wanted. I went for poached plaice, stuffed with crab and prawn meat and topped with a champagne sauce, a far cry from my usual college fodder. Suzanne plumped for a light salad. She gesticulated at her shapely figure in response to my raised eyebrow.

"You think it's easy, keeping my body looking like this at my age? Anyway, if I have a salad for a main course I reckon I'm allowed to let myself go for one of their desserts."

I normally preferred a starter, but Suzanne persuaded me to save myself for some pudding.

"It's excellent here, Matt, well worth not having a starter for," she promised, raising her drink. "Cheers!"
