A Good Girl's Reward

Annie thought that this day couldn't get much worse as she drove home from her office on campus. First, she had gotten chewed out by her boss for flirting with one of the professors. Then she went to lunch and ran into an old boyfriend. This wouldn't have been so bad except he was with his new girlfriend. Watching them cuddle and grope each other made her lose her appetite. On the way back to her office, she tripped on the stairs and banged both of her kneecaps on the cement stairs. Basically it was a Murphy's Law day from start until present.

As she was just about home, her cell phone rang. Before she answered, she checked the caller-ID. It was only her mother calling. "This can't be good" she thought. "Hi mom, what's up?"

Mom's voice sounded excited. "I just wanted to let you know that you got a package here from Fed Ex. It isn't really big, would you like me to open it and tell you what it is?"

"That is okay mom, I will be there in five minutes and then we can both find out. See you in a few." She smiled. Her mother was the only person in the world she knew who hated surprises more than her. Annie stepped on the gas and gave a little nudge to her Rodeo to get home a little faster.
