Chapter 6 - Shopping for Susan I found myself, over the next few days, confused by Susan's behaviour. As we went about our ordinary daily business, me up to town, her into Corran to school she was her usual loving self, not particularly mentioning the events of previous weekend, nor indeed particularly avoiding them. I began to become more comfortable. Susan's apparent carelessness after her humiliation of me after the garden party could be put down to tiredness and partly to her (actually rather exciting) dominant style. The insouciant twirl on the heel and her imperious gorgeous turn out of the bedroom ,in retrospect, was actually just the same as her giving me her undies to wash or to go shopping for her. Each made me feel tremendously loved and comfortable. And in a strange way I was becoming more comfortable with her flirting with Nick. Friday held the delicious threat of Nick coming to supper after the reception, and I find myself looking forward to it, albeit with some apprehension..

During the week Susan asks if I can take Friday off. 'Easy. I'm owed a good few days.' 'I'll give you a little list. We could have something light - scrambled eggs and salmon?'
