The knock at the front door startled her. She was not expecting anyone. She was dressed for bed in her silk slip and dressing gown and besides, it was fairly late. She had just sat down on the couch with a steaming mug of hot chocolate and had switched the television on to watch the late news.

"It's me." His rough voice answered urgently. "Open the door, it's freezing out here!"

Quickly, she unlocked the door and opened it. He quickly walked in and picked her up in a bear hug and kicked back at the door as he walked into the house, making sure it slammed shut. She hugged him back, her legs easily wrapped around his waist as he carried her back to the couch.
