My boyfriend Kurt and I were backpacking around Australia last summer and were enjoying the people and country. One particular good memory was when we were in North Queensland in the tropics near the Great Barrier Reef. The people were friendly and the beaches were fantastic, so isolated which made us feel like we were the only people on earth sometimes.

We were staying at a caravan park in a small town on the coast nestled in a bay overlooking crystal clear turquoise water and white sand as far you could see. We decided to go for a walk the first morning we were there along the beach to the headland of the bay. It was very warm in the bright tropic sunshine even in mid morning. We felt so relaxed and enjoying ourselves we just kept walking to the point that took us around a couple of hours. We climbed a sand hill to see what was over the other side only to see another beautiful bay with palm trees dotted along the shoreline. We could see a small house nestled amongst the trees about kilometer away. As we had drank all our water we thought we could make it there and top up our bottles before heading back. Seeing as we must have walked about six kilometers it was the best choice we thought.
