When I forced myself to look at the walking corpses more closely, I realized they looked exactly like the ones in a well-known zombie movie I forget the name of: an old one that my parents hadn't let me watch when it came out but that I finally saw a few years ago. These looked like bad actors in bad makeup, instructed to "shamble" by an incompetent director.

I decided to use my shovel against them. But what I found in my hands instead was a gleaming sword. I began swinging at the fake-looking zombies. The sword sliced through them as if they were nothing, and they rotted away into the earth as fast as they hit the ground.

The zombies made no sound as I struck them, but in the distance I heard a man screaming. I began clearing a path in the direction of the screams. Moments later I spotted Arturo, surrounded by a cluster of zombies crowding in on him, ripping at his clothes and trying to devour his flesh. This made me angry. I wanted to do that. Why should they get to?

I fought my way closer to my friend. When I was close enough, I called out his name to get his attention, then tossed him my sword. He caught it deftly by the hilt. The terror on his face was replaced by determination, then by triumph as he saw how easily he could fell the zombies now that I had armed him.
