From the first taste of my second pint of Guinness I knew something was wrong. There was no doubt about it; this pint had whiskey added to it!

I'm a regular in this pub so I know that the staff don't make mistakes, and you would have to make a pretty big mistake to get a shot of whiskey into a pint by accident. No, this had been done on purpose, and there was only one person who could have done it - the woman sat opposite me. She had gone to the bar and ordered the drinks and had made sure that mine had an extra something in.

So, as I took my time savouring the taste I had to make up my mind what I was going to do. It seemed to me I had three choices:

1. I could ask her why she had done this 2. I could just make an excuse not to finish the pint 3. I could pretend I hadn't noticed the difference.

Something in my brain told me that the last option was going to be the best, and potentially the most interesting. So I kept my silence and proceeded to finish the pint in my usual fashion, i.e. reasonably fast.

But I'm getting ahead of myself here. ...
