The Growing: Chapter Two

Laurel came awake slowly. She had slept hard and deep, like a solid stone sunk into a pillow of sand. She yawned and stretched in bed before opening her eyes. Light was not yet permeating the windows, and the room was dim. Her first instinct was to roll over and go back to sleep, but it was her second instinct that she obeyed. Tossing her slender legs over the side of the bed and coming up to a sitting position, she yawned and stretched again, this time pushing out her chest and cracking her back. She was alone in her Master's bedroom; the bedside clock read six o'clock am. She wasn't certain if he had intended for her to sleep in after last night's exploits, even still she opted for rising early. She could, if she needed, take a nap while he was at work.

An hour later Laurel appeared downstairs, fresh and smiling. She was wearing her low cut faded jeans and a simple white spaghetti strap top. Her feet were bare as she bounced through the threshold of the kitchen. James was seated at the bar reading the newspaper and sipping his coffee. Laurel inhaled deeply of her Master's rich coffee as she poured herself a glass of orange juice. She seated herself next to him at the bar and waited.
