The email was simple and to the point.

Gretchen quickly clicked the mouse and the local newspaper's home page loaded onto her screen. She turned her head slightly and smiled at her husband, Martin.

"No. I was just catching up on the local news." She made her voice sound casual, even though inside she wanted to scream with joy. He had written. He was still interested.

She waited until Martin had settled back in front of the TV, then switched back to her secret email account.
