It was Friday night, and the usual gang from the office were at the local Irish pub for a few drinks. Some left early, but there were always a few who made a night of it and ended up having dinner.

Clare was new, having been with the company only a couple of weeks, and this was the first time she had accepted the open invitation. Trevor had asked her to them all. He rather fancied the new employee, but being a fairly shy sort of guy, he didn't reveal much. Clare rather liked him. He was considerate and helpful at work, and showed her the ropes.

When Trevor eventually plucked up the courage to ask her to have dinner with them, she agreed. As it turned out, dinner would considt of just the two of them. The others drifted away as the evening wore on. "Looks like it's just us. How about we go to that little Italian restaurant next door? Are you game?" He smiled. Yes, she decided. She liked him.

They enjoyed each others company, and talked about their lives. Clare was separated from her husband of 6 years. She had no kids, but would have liked to start a family. She was just 30, and although not divorced, the relationship was well behind her. Trevor was 10 years older than her, and divorced with 2 young children who he saw regularly on weekends, but not this one, as they were away visiting relatives with their mother.
