Taking separate cars and leaving a week apart hadn't been my first choice, but we hadn't been on a vacation in years and I had a bunch of work drop into my lap at the last minute. As compensation Jo's friend Tori had agreed to make the road trip with her. I felt better about them traveling together for a lot of reasons, so I grudgingly agreed to let her start without me. A week almost to the minute after we split I made it to our hotel. I had called ahead and was eager to get reacquainted, but when I picked up a key and went up to the room, she wasn't there.
