Promptly at eight o'clock that night Latimer parked his ratty old Merc coupe in front of the laundry at 1026 Howard Street. Climbing the stairs through the humid sultry evening air, he rapped on the door of Lydia London's flat. This time there was no delay. It opened instantly.

Vince was a little startled by the girl's costume.
