Sitting at her dining table a few days later, Rory sighed, resting her chin on her fist. She had already completed the ad Derek needed for his company, which meant no more office rendezvous for them. She and Derek had casually seen each other for a few months afterward, Jason wasn't bothering her anymore. Things were good until recently, when Derek had gone off to a conference out of state. He hasn't called or contacted her in any way since he left.

Rory stood and washed her breakfast dishes. Was she really stupid enough to think she and Derek would work? She was desperate, lonely, and vulnerable.
