The Anniversary Gift

It was a beautiful February afternoon, sunny and warm. As I sat at my desk waiting for this never-ending day to be over, I let my mind drift to the pleasures that await mere hours away. It's mine and Alex's 10-yr. anniversary and I have a very special surprise for him. I have rented the same chalet that we had our first romantic getaway weekend at in the mountains.

I've been planning this now for months. I've called and made arrangements with Anna, the owner's daughter, to have hundreds of candles placed around the two rooms of the opened faced chalet, especially near the massive four poster bed in the center of the main room. Anna even agreed to place the white satin sheets on the bed and to scatter rose petals over them. There will be a bottle of chilled champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting in front of the fireplace when we arrive tonight. A small smile played about my lips as I imagine the shock and surprise on Alex's face when he sees the rest of it later tonight.

I was so caught up in my plans that I didn't realize that it was time to go home until someone walked bye calling good night. My heart racing in anticipation, I begin shutting down my PC and straightening my desk. As usual I'm the last to leave the office.
