The flowers started at noon. The candy came just after lunch. The cards began when Alexandra emerged from the elevator at her customary hour of seven o'clock and hadn't stopped for the length of the day. The steady stream of gifts were more testaments to her hard work than anything romantic, although there was no shortage of intimate feelings for her on behalf of the male co-workers.
