"You must be the new nurse. Miss Mason, I believe?" The tall gaunt doctor looked at her with cool, analytical hazel eyes. Her first impression was of a man who never smiled and who was all business with his clipped upper crust Brit accent. There was something else in his tone but she couldn't put a label to it but it definitely sounded continental in some vague way.

Her voice trembled a bit as this was her new appointment to Kensington general hospital. She wanted to make a good impression because she needed the job desperately. "Yes doctor Wendler. My name is Cathy mason and I've been assigned to assist you during surgery."

He sighed a little. To him, she looked like some wayward girl from a boarding school, who happened to be dressed up in nursing apparel. He was 31 and just two years out of medical school himself. "Miss Mason, I hope you realize that the most important person in this hospital is the patient! Have you had proper training in surgical procedures? I say, but you look rather young to be a fully qualified surgical nurse."
