The Cabbies

It was a miserable night. The sky was black, and the rain pelted the windshield as the wipers tried valliently to keep up, but failed miserably. Lily squinted against the glare of the lights against the pavement and muttered to herself about her own stupidity.

"Only an idiot would go out at 3am on a night like this...or a sex-starved insomniac" she corrected herself dryly. She looked at the bag resting on the seat beside her and laughed, it contained everything a sex-starved insomniac needed to survive...booze, chocolate, and a steamy video. "At least," she said outloud, "by the time I finally pass out, I'll be horny enough to have one Helluva dream!"

Moments later her smile abruptly faded. The engine sputtered and died, as it often did when it got wet. Cursing loudly, she pulled the coasting vehicle as far to the right as she could on the quiet street and put on her hazard lights.

She sat for a moment, listeneing to the drumming of the rain, wondering whether to wait it out, or make a run for the nearest phone booth. The rain didn't look like it would stop any time soon, and she knew that her car wouldn't start until the wires could dry out.
