Fixing the problem.

Listening to the front door click shut, it heralded the arrival of Chrissie returning from her first day of college. Over the years I had become a surrogate father to Chrissie; it all came about when she was about nine. I had been friendly with her dad for years, when her mum decided that she needed to go out and work it was a simple request.

Cathy asked if I could watch Chrissie for about 20 minutes each day after school, working as a post man I was usually finished about 2pm. plenty of time to be back for Chrissie coming home. I agreed and the rest is history.

I didn't have a wife; I preferred to read the library than buy the book. But I guess like most guys I did like the idea of having a kid about the house. Within a year Cathy was explaining that they were refitting the local supermarket and she had been asked to do extra shifts. Cathy offered to pay me for my time, like a true friend I refused the money explaining that I was getting company from a great little girl.

As the years rolled by, Chrissie and I became inseparable; I could only guess why Chrissie spent so much time over at my place. I knew her parents were extremely strict; Uncle Craig on the other hand was a pushover.
