With the stick hard back in my stomach, I smoothly pushed the throttle wide open. The little four-cylinder Lycoming bolted to the nose of the Cub wound up and the needle on the rev counter climbed towards the red line at 2700rpm as the prop clawed at the air, 160 horsepower dragging us up onto the step. I eased the stick forward as the needle on the Airspeed Indicator smoothly climbed past 50...55mph and then jumped to 60 as we became airborne and broke free of the drag from the water on the floats. I quickly retrimmed to hold 65 and we climbed away from the surface in a wide left-hand turn that brought us back around the bay. As we passed through 500 feet I looked over my shoulder at Lauren strapped into the back seat. She was looking out the left window at the crescent of golden sand and the strip of sun-bleached grass where we had made love together for the first time. I'd spread our wet underwear on the tail of the Cub and we'd spent a very enjoyable hour skinny-dipping and lying on the sand to pass the time while they dried.

"Ok back there?" I asked through the intercom. She looked up and gave me another dazzling smile.

"I'm fine. Thank you for a lovely afternoon"
