The Prom.

Growing up in a small sleepy village, in Scotland had some really great advantages. For a start, I didn't know what rush hour was until I was 14, the idea of rush hour in our village was four cars driving on the same street. Then there was the joy of listening to the birds singing happily as I woke for school.

In fact unless you have actually grown up in a small village then moved away, you can't really appreciate how different life is from the large suburban area's of Scotland. Although like everything else, it also had its down side too.

For a start if we wanted to do anything worth talking about as kids, we had to travel to the nearest large town five miles away, and if we missed the school bus in the morning, then we really had a problem. But on the whole looking back life was simple.

The other thing that we didn't have a great deal of, was girlfriends, as our sleepy town only had about thirty children of different ages, then it made finding a date rather hard. For the most part I dated girls that went to my school, but getting over to see them was also a problem. Although for me it wasn't a big problem.
