Monday morning came and went and Nelson Crowe heard no word from Dean Susan Blake's office. He waited, and tried to keep busy with his classes, his students and paperwork. Anything to keep him from thinking. He had even spoken to Nan Barkin. He had assured her that the incident was his responsibility solely, and that no action would be taken against her. He had even managed a smile when she told him that next time they would have to be much more careful.

By the noontime, Crowe's thoughts centered squarely on Susan Blake. He liked her actually, and he regretted the disrespect he had shown her. She was relatively new to Lakeland, having arrived from another small liberal arts campus in upstate New York a little more than two years before. She had the right credentials, and great ideas for making things at Lakeland better. She was enthusiastic and tireless, and she was greatly respected by most of her faculty.

The call reached Crowe by late afternoon, and he was angry at having had to wait. He entered Susan Blake's office with his head up ready to do battle if that's what it took. He seated himself, and watched the woman at the big window behind the desk closely.
