Summer Harvest

Summertime down on the farm, Jill and her older sister Evelyn invited my roommate and me to stay at her parent's farm for the month of July, since neither of us were working that summer.

I pictured long hot languid days, and hotter nights. There would be time for swimming, horseback riding, and uninterrupted nights of passionate lovemaking.

The following story is how that month really turned out.

We had been there two days when Jill's dad suggested we might like to help bring in the hay since there was a storm coming. We agreed, I mean how hard could it be for two strong athletic boys like us, right?

The July heat beats down in sheets of body draining pain. My eyes hurt from squinting in the sun, even the best sunglasses didn't seem to help. Sweat rolled off my body faster then I could replace it even drinking all the water there was available. Keep in mind that was outside where the temperature for the last week had been a mind boggling 110 in the sun by noon. It was only 83 now, but then it was only ten in the morning and we were loading the last of three wagons with hay in the far field of the farm.
