Getting stationed in the Green Zone was a welcome relief for me. I had spent the last year in places like Fallujah and Sadr City...shitholes...deathbeds....the most rotten places on this planet and I was lucky to have gotten out with my arms and legs still intact. This fucking country is a depressing mindfuck...and i couldn't wait to get out....until last night.

I was patrolling the parameter of the Green Zone...my nightly duty. One of the requirements of this job was for my partner and i to split up and do a hallway check of the apartment buildings that housed most of the Iraqi government officials and their families. Normally we would never be allowed to split up but the Green Zone was the most secure place in the country. Dave and I split up with him taking the larger of the two units after losing the nightly coin toss.

I started down the hallway on the first floor and halfway down noticed one the doors were slightly ajar. I looked at my sheet and noticed it was the apartment of Mahmoud Saleh and his wife Jeza. The information sheet had profile pictures and data records of everyone in the building....and Jeza Saleh was definitely a HOT woman from her picture. Normally we would not see the Iraqi women out of their traditional garb....but for security purposes the face has to be fully exposed for the photos.

I knocked lightly on the door. No response. ...
