GOODBYE BIRTHDAY BLUES

It was another day, another dollar. Please forgive me the cliché, but work is a bit too stressful lately. I actually like my job, but my co-workers are really trying my patience. As parole officers, we are all supposedly equal colleagues. With budget cuts decimating our department, we have been forced to tend to our own administrative duties for the past 6 months. Supposedly some stimulus package money is coming our way, but our much needed relief seems unlikely today or tomorrow.

"Hey Christina, do you know the zip code for 422 Main Street, Trenton? I've got to send this letter to that jurisdiction in the Smith case today. " "Hey Johnson, it's called www.usps.com!" I think that this is the 10th time this month that I've had to help you remember that. "

This is what I'm talking about. Whether it's a critical piece of case information, or a mundane detail like a zip code, no one around here can make a damn decision on their own. Maybe I am the smartest and hardest working person in the department if I do say so myself. That's not vanity. These spineless knuckleheads prove it every day when the only woman in the department has to take them by the hand and walk them through everything. It's just like I say to my husband at home; "I am not your mother".
