Chapter 4 - Dinner with Augustus

Dressed in a new toga, I went to join Augustus for dinner. He was standing there waiting for me. His wife was by his side.

Every woman likes to receive compliments. To receive one from a god who has come to visit with you is beyond description. Everyone was in a perfect mood for dinner.

It was just the three of us. If there were going to be other guests earlier, they got the word not to attend. There were several courses, all excellent. There were fresh fruits and vegetables, steaks and lamb, and flavored ices for dessert. I went easy on the wine (which was very tasty) not knowing how or if alcohol would affect me.
