I parked my car in the driveway, then tossing my jacket over a shoulder I ambled to the mailbox, pulled out the day's mail and ambled back over the steps to slip the key into the lock of my front door. Once inside the house I flipped on the coffee maker, then settled into one a dining chair to look at the mail I'd just brought in.

After sorting out the junk mail, I picked up the bills and opened them one at a time. The Visa card bill was the last one I opened but I had to look twice to check if the amount due was really 900 dollars that month! Usually it ended up around 500 a month so as I checked the details, I caught the unexpected transaction.

I knew it wasn't my wife who was responsible for that. She and I had had little to no sex in the past year and even before that our relationship had cooled steadily over a long period. She wasn't my favourite woman in the world, but I had to grant that she wasn't seeing anyone behind my back. She was far too busy being Vice President of a prominent silicon valley startup and was more the ambitious and industrious kind than anything else.
