From Trophy Wife to Corporate Whore. By Lady Grey

I guess in a way I've only got myself to blame for ending up in this mess; well, that and an ambitious and ruthless husband whom I realized at the time cared for no one but himself.

I'm Laura and Carl, my husband, is fifteen years older than I, and when I announced I was getting married to him, my friends told me in no uncertain terms not to, just stay as I am: young, free, and single. It was good advice, but at twenty two, and going out with a guy like Carl, with his nice apartment and classy sports car....well, when he asked me to marry him, there was no way that I was going to let a guy like that slip off the hook.

I guess it worked for Carl as well: an attractive, articulate twenty-two year old, with a great figure even if I say so myself. And he wanted a trophy wife with a bit of class to flaunt at corporate events.

Well, ignoring my friend's advice, we married, and the first couple of years were great. His luxury apartment was a big step up from my parent's council house, and his money helped. He was earning big money at the time, and he was very free with it. He never complained about what I spent on clothes and those essential items that we women need to buy.
