Adrian mentors Kara by Marianne

Adrian reminisced to himself as he sat on the front porch in his nightclothes, a pair of gym shorts and a muscle shirt, sipping his morning coffee. His mood was melancholy as he remembered tender moments with his late wife, Trudy.

He'd overslept by half an hour, not that it mattered much. At just fifty-two, Adrian had already been retired from the police force for three years. He'd taken early retirement to care for Trudy in her last months. The cervical cancer was diagnosed late and within just a few months after she was diagnosed she was gone, leaving a hole in Adrian's heart the size of the Mammoth Cave.

Since Trudy passed, his life has been on autopilot. He had just three passions, his wife, his children, and playing classical guitar. His children were both grown and living in other states. All that was left for him was the classical guitar. His life had become a strict regimen of physical exercise to maintain his health and fitness, maintaining his home in perfect order and studying and practicing his music.

Unlike most police officers, his job had been just a paycheck to him. He did it, and did it well for over twenty-five years, working his way up to Captain of Detectives, but he was one of the few who was truly glad to put his career behind him so he could focus on his passions. ...
