A surprise encounter I knew that Mike was to visit our area this week. Paula has been seeing this particular friend on occasion for the past year or so. He lives some hours away by air, and he visits our area either for work, or to see Paula about every month or so. This week Mike had a couple of business engagements to attend to and thought that he might just fit in Paula on Friday morning before he left town. On Tuesday or Wednesday evening, I asked Paula if Mike happened to be visiting this week. It felt like it was about that time. She shared with me his plans. I looked questioningly at her and said something like "that doesn't seem right. You deserves to be wined and dined." "That's what I am saying" she replied. She told me was going to pass on seeing Mike this week. On Thursday evening I again inquired about Mike and Paula repeated that she was just going to pass on seeing Mike this week. She told me that she wasn't in the mood and she was disappointed that he was not extending his stay so they could at least have a nice lunch. I suppose he was concerned about the bad weather that was forecast for the east coast this weekend and the potential for flight delays.

On Friday morning I left for a meeting in neighboring city and spoke to Paula a little bit by phone on the way. She had taken the day off to catch up on some holiday shopping and to use some of her vacation days before they expire at the end of the year. She and I discussed little things I wanted her to purchase at the store for the weekend.
