There are a million stories in the naked city, and I guess this is one...

That into is from an old TV show. Each week a new drama evolved on our little screen, a story of people and their lives and their problems. At the end of the hour some resolution was reached. Usually there was a happy ending. Perhaps this story will have a happy ending, too.

It was February, and by then the rains had come and the grass had grown high, and just getting the boat and its trailer out of the mud and weeds and on to the graveled pad was a bit of a challenge. But I have four wheel drive so I managed. I jacked up the trailer and set it on blocks, and pulled the wheels. I'm a decent surgeon if not much of a mechanic, but I can change out a set of bearings and grease things up so that the trailer could be towed without seizing up. I bought the correct bearings and seals down at O'Reillys, and set them in place. Craig down at the tire store mounted new rubber on Tony's old rims and I bolted them on. And I bought new taillights for the trailer at Western Marine and wired them in, so everything was ready to go by the time Friday night rolled around. I even bought one of those gizmos to brace the outboard motor so it didn't bounce around and put too much torque on the transom when it was towed. It was almost like I knew what I was doing.
