Tina seemed to revert back to her old self after the weekend. Hard-assed and cold, she barely spoke to me except a polite ‘Hello' when she saw me daily. I relived every single second of our Thanksgiving weekend over and over in my head and sometimes, when I was at work, I was very thankful there was a counter between me and the customers. I tried several times, unsuccessfully, to make contact with her but to no avail. She was either too busy or had something on the go. Finally I decided enough was enough. My parents had decided to move north to be closer to my sister and her kids, only fifty miles but it gave me the freedom to do a few things I had wanted to do with some unused spaces in the house. I had worked on it for a bit over a week and that Saturday evening found me at her door - bottle of wine in hand and camera satchel over my shoulder. Tina took a step back when she saw me.

"Thomas," she tried to smile. "You actually caught me on my way out."

"Really?" I smiled. "I think you and I have to have a chat."

"Not now, Thomas." I could see the uncertainty in her eyes and I boldly took a step inside the doorway.

"No, now is the perfect time." Tina didn't try to block me and I strode past her and on into the kitchen. "Call your friends and tell them something came up." ...
