Okay, so I got knocked up by Ray when I was young, and we subsequently got married. Money was tight, what with him not having a skilled profession, and so we ended up living in a trailer. Becky, now 12, goes to school, and luckily we've avoided having any more brats, as she's become.

As you can imagine, there's not much night life (we only have a small TV set), for me, anyway. Ray, on the other hand, has gotten pally with several local yahoos he's met at a local bar, and on occasion has even brought them back, part drunk or not, to either shoot the breeze, or just to piss me off.

On this particular hot morning, having had a long lie in after a boozy night, I stumbled out of bed, still in the vest, and faded tattered denim shorts that I was wearing the night before. Taking a brew - always a good hangover cure, I find - from the fridge, and it being a Saturday, I don't immediately wonder where the brat is, as I slope outside, to see where my no good husband, Ray is.

"Look what the cat's dragged out," one of Ray's friends exclaims, upon seeing me.

"Where's Becky at?" I call over to Ray, who's sat around idle as usual.

"Don't you remember, I took her to your mom's," he informs me. ...
