Ena paused, her mind examining the past few days; the tension of organising then the happiness and joy of the day, Ralf's mastery of her body in bed on Christmas eve, and now, tired but happy in her task of cleaning.

Looking around the floor she sighs at the debris of Christmas day; the torn wrapping paper, the colourful boxes; some torn in the excitement of opening, some opened with care to later hold the prized gift.

The paper and the torn boxes and packages, Ena pushes into a plastic sack, the others she stacks to one side to collect later.

Sitting on her heels the woman sweeps an arm over her hot brow then tries to clear the obstruction of a wayward lock of hair by blowing at it. It submits to the blast of air from her mouth but then more easily submits to the long enduring force of gravity and falls back to its regular place in front of Ena's right eye.

Her day dreaming is interrupted by what, for just a second, was revealed by the absence of the blonde hair obscuring her vision. Another puff of her breath batters the recalcitrant lock to free her vision. In the second it takes for the hair to return, the woman's eyes focus on something under the Christmas tree.

Scuttling forward on her knees Ena lunges for the object, knocking over ...
