The Day My New Life Started

My mother walked away from our family when I was 12 and never looked back. It was just my father, my older brother and me until my father died suddenly when I was 20. My brother took the house and the business and I got my father's BMW, most of the insurance money and a send off from my brother who gave me a quick hug at the funeral, the guarantee of a monthly check from 'his' business and told me to get the hell out of his house.

I drove out to California, glad to get away from the horrible Wisconsin winters, my overbearing brother and a business I hated anyway.
