I awaken, not suddenly but gradually. My consciousness returns to me even before opening my eyes. After a moment's confusion, I remember where I am and slowly open my eyes. I don't know if I've been asleep for five minutes or an hour and since I'm wearing no wristwatch I have no way of checking.
