After the horrible experiences I had with my roommates in the dorms my first two years of college I swore I wouldn't go back. I tried several times to work the system and switch, but my request was always denied. Towards the end of my sophomore year I started looking through every message and bulletin board to find an off campus apartment. I found a few that I thought would work, but each one fell through for one reason or another.

The only possible downfall is the other person was a woman. Neither one of us was sure we'd be able to make it work and be comfortable with our families and whomever we're dating. However she was just as desperate as I was, so after hanging out a few times we decided to take the risk and rent the apartment together.

Whenever someone found out we were sharing an apartment and nothing was going on between us, people didn't believe it. But it was totally true. Between neither one of us spending much time in the apartment or one of us in a relationship; there wasn't time for anything to develop.
