The Return Home

It had been a long six months, but the training we were doing had been both successful and rewarding, and things these days were certainly better in regards to contact with loved ones than they had been in years gone by and that contact had been regular, at a minimum once a week depending on the roles and tasks being undertaken, so the desire to talk to my lover had regularly been fulfilled. There still remained the void that only physical contact can fill but in this land of dust filled plains the best looking occupants being the roos and camels that largely inhabited this part of the country that void would remain until I returned home.

I often reflected on my circumstances and my relationship which to me, whether married or not, was a dedicated and sacred thing, when some of the lads would go out 'on the prowl' I felt that it was funny that I'd trust them with my life in battle but they could play up on their wife or partner and not think twice about it...maybe it was my morals, the way I had been raised in a fairly strict catholic household, but all I could do was shake my head and decline the offer when asked if I was coming with them, besides it was seven days and a wakey and we'd be home.

That last week flew by, there wasn't a great deal for us to do once all our gear was cleaned, refurbished and stored away for the journey home ...
