Story outline: Although a well-calculated and daring bank hold up, shortly before closing time, went to plan, the trio of robbers, nonetheless, took one of the female tellers as a hostage; a quite reluctant one as it so happened.

It was 3:30 in the afternoon, a warm sunny Monday in June. With 30 minutes to go before the bank where I work closed for the day, I had just finished serving Mrs Jones. It was moderately busy, I noticed. Alice, the furthest teller along from me, was helping Mr Daniels with an enquiry.

"Next," I called out in an inviting tone, while emitting a warm smile, only to notice George, the bank's security guard, stretch his legs. The poor guy, in his 40's, had to stand all day, he didn't even get a proper lunch break like the rest of us.

Having cashed a cheque for another customer, Robert Edwards, I thanked him and said, ‘have a nice day,' adding a smile.

With no one else waiting to be served, my eyes gazed around the room. There were several people I noticed, including two well-presented men. Each one dressed in a suit, shirt and tie, with well-polished black shoes; business types, each one with a briefcase at his feet. They were stood apart from one another, each one doing something on one of the pedestals the bank has dotted around for customers to fill out cheques ...
