Chapter Eleven: On The Road, Again (again)

We packed up from last night, and picked over the cupboards, both in the kitchen and in the basement pantry. The Sterno went in one outside pack pocket, double bagged in plastic. The matches were also double bagged, and divvied up among us. I checked the women's firearms, and checked my own. Loaded, magazines topped off, safety secured, we were ready to go.

Emily locked the door, again hiding the key where she, or John, could find it. We walked over to the control center, and checked in. Chief Schwartz had evidently finished his tour, as his assistant was "Ops Command" for the time being. He greeted us.

"Howdy. I'm Don Walker, Assistant Fire Chief. Can I help you folks?"

Emily spoke up. "Thanks! I'm Emily Luce, this is Mark Evans, and this is Lucy Mortensen. We got in last night."
