On Monday, after he returned from lunch, Alan stood at his window rereading the interoffice e-message he had just received. He was shaking his head, pondering what the Hell kind of turmoil the answer to the e-message would bring. He scanned the parking lot below his window casually watching cars circle looking for a space to park. He heavily dropped into his chair and leaned back, holding the message ion his right hand as he read it once again but noticed nothing in the message content had changed. He jerked from his deep thought about the message when he heard Alicia close her outer door. He expected the separate interoffice door to open and hear her telling him she was back. No door opening, instead he heard the squeal of her chair when she sat, then immediately following the squeal, his phone rang. He saw that it was her calling and he ignored it. Rather than answer the call, he pushed the interoffice door open, took two long strides, without her offering, quickly dropped to the side chair, held the message out to her, and said, "Am I in trouble here?"
