It had been an exhausting and occasionally frustrating week. The three of us - myself, Stu and Jon had been sent over to our office in Dublin to help sort out a number of issues. They knew we were there to possibly highlight people who could possibly lose their jobs and everyone's defences were up. Finally, it was Friday evening and we could enjoy the weekend at the company's expense until we had to go back in on Monday.

We were all exhausted, so we decided to just have a meal and a few drinks in the hotel and save ourselves for Saturday night when one of the Dublin office managers had offered to take us out. With full stomachs, we found a quiet corner in the bar and chatted over drinks. At first, the talk was mostly work related, and then polite chat as we learnt about each other. Stu opened up about his divorce which was going fairly smoothly and he was in the early stages of a new relationship, then Jon started talking about his marriage. After three years, it seemed he wasn't as happy as he thought he'd be. They were both surprised that I'm single.

"Don't you miss not having someone else around?" Stu asked.

"After listening to some of the conversations at work, I'm glad I'm single!" I laughed, downing the remains of my drink. I called over the barman and ordered another round of drinks to be put on my room tab.
