Chapter 9: Blind Sided

Detective Charlotte "Charlie" Parker left Detective Joe Teo's house and headed for home. The two of them worked together on The Fisherman task force and now knew who their killer was but were unable to locate him. His house, garage, and van had been searched and evidence collected. Signed statements from witnesses who saw him with the murder victims were on hand. The evidence they found was damning. They were just waiting for forensics to connect him to the victims with DNA.

She was full from the spaghetti dinner Joe prepared and sleepy from a busy day. She was looking forward to a bottle of beer and her comfortable bed.

The streets at 10:30 p.m. were quiet as she made her way towards the freeway. She had the creepy feeling someone had been following her for the past two days and as sleepy as she was, she still kept an eye on her rearview mirror. She wasn't sure if she should feel happy or disappointed that she didn't see anyone following her.

Twenty minutes later she pulled into the underground garage of her apartment building. She parked in her parking space and turned off the truck's engine. She sat listening to the engine tick as the exhaust ...
